Coming off a tournament championship at Seckman, Pacific continued its winning ways on the basketball court Thursday at Northwest.
The Lady Indians (8-3) won their fifth consecutive game, cruising past Northwest, 54-25.
“Defense played a big part in our win. We held them to 10 points in the first half and 15 in the second half. Our pressure is improving,” said Pacific Head Coach Josh Spuhl. “It was a good road game for us. Now we just need to get everyone healthy. Four of our girls played under the weather.”
Pacific held leads of 12-3 after one quarter and 19-10 at halftime.
The Lady Indians put the game away by outscoring the Lady Lions 17-5 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 36-15.
Ashley Hill, Kya Hill and Abby Spuhl each scored 11 points for Pacific. Spuhl knocked down three three-pointers.
“Kya did a great job in the post. Northwest is much bigger than us. She really stepped up,” Spuhl said. “Ashley was able to apply a lot of pressure to their point guard. That kept them from setting up plays.”
Lizzy Almo finished the game with eight points.
“Lizzy came up big in the fourth quarter,” Spuhl said. “She was in foul trouble and came out to prove a point in the fourth.”
Meagan Wakefield added seven points.
Karlie King pitched in with four points. Hunter Kelemen scored two points. Ellen Rogers also played.
“Ellen and Abby had to guard bigger players. They did a nice job,” Spuhl said. “Abby and Meagan were able to hit some shots from the outside. We’ve been missing that.”
Northwest (6-7) was led by Sierra McClure, who scored eight points. Alysiah Whittaker added seven points.
Pacific was 10-17 from the free-throw line. Northwest was 7-19.
