St. Clair 41, Borgia 12

A motivated St. Clair team continued its winning ways on the football field Friday against Borgia.

Leading 14-6 at halftime, the Bulldogs (7-1) controlled the second half in a 41-12 victory over the Knights (4-4).

Both teams are in Class 4 District 3, which begins play after one more regular season game.

Borgia’s first half points came on a pair of field goals by Luke Schriewer from 22 and 45 yards making the score 3-0 in the first quarter and 7-6 in the second quarter at the time.

St. Clair took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter when quarterback Kyle Juergens tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Blake Dierking.

The Bulldogs struck again with 34 seconds remaining in the second quarter when Juergens picked off a pass and raced 40 yards for a score to increase the lead to 14-6.

That play gave St. Clair all the momentum going into halftime, which continued into the second half.

The Bulldogs scored on their first play from scrimmage when Rickey Grivetti ran 60 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21-6.

On the next possession, Grivetti raced 70 yards for a touchdown to increase the lead to 28-6 with 9:49 left in the third quarter.

Borgia scored its one and only touchdown on a two-yard run by quarterback John Baumstark to make the score 28-12 with 11:13 left in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs scored the final two touchdowns of the game on a 79-yard run by Juergens with 9:55 left and a five-yard run by Adam Brott with 4:18 remaining.

Juergens had one touchdown pass, one touchdown run and also scored on an interception.

Grivetti rushed for two touchdowns. Dierking had a touchdown reception.

St. Clair ends its regular season Friday for a week nine home contest against Owensville (0-8).

Things don’t get any easier for the Knights as they conclude the regular season Friday at unbeaten Sullivan (8-0).
