Opportunities to score points were there for Pacific, but the Indians couldn’t finish their drives in a 21-0 home football loss last Friday to Festus.

The visiting Tigers (5-2) scored seven points in the first, second and third quarters in the victory.

“We did good things offensively moving the ball, but we just couldn’t punch it in the end zone,” said Pacific Head Coach George Hinkle. “We got the ball inside the 20-yard line several times and didn’t score.”

Pacific (1-6, 1-3) lost the ball on downs at the Festus two-yard line late in the first half, trailing 14-0.

“We had first and goal from the nine and just couldn’t get points on the scoreboard,” Hinkle said. “We ran some good plays, but couldn’t get the ball to the edge. I thought we had a good play called on fourth down, but missed a couple of key blocks.”

Hermann Preview

The Indians travel to Hermann for a week eight contest against the Bearcats.

Hermann (3-4, 2-2) is coming off two straight losses to Sullivan (60-7) and St. Clair (69-24), the top two teams in the FRC. The Bearcats also have lost to Montgomery County 56-21 and South Callaway, 43-8.

Wins have come against Cuba 13-12, St. James 28-20 and Owensville, 33-14.

The Bearcats’ primary weapons are quarterback Craig Winkelmann, running back Armando Matech and returner Saige Hale.

“Hermann is an athletic team that runs the ball well with their fullback,” Hinkle said. “Defensively, they’re solid. They’re also good on special teams.”

Playing on a wet field, Pacific accumulated 209 total yards against Festus, 109 rushing and 100 passing.

Quarterback Eain Roberts was 16-28 passing for 100 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 84 yards on 20 carries.

“Eain gets better every week,” Hinkle said. “He’s throwing the ball better and has a better feel for the offense.”

Austin Repp had 10 receptions for 59 yards.

“Austin had a good game,” Hinkle said. “We need to work with our receivers in catching the ball and getting down field.”

Kelvin Klenke rushed for seven yards on four attempts and had four receptions for 32 yards.

Jason Koepke carried the ball two times for 18 yards and added one catch for six yards. Tyler Smith had one reception for three yards.

Defensively, sophomore linebacker Dalton Voyles continued his solid season with seven solo tackles and one assist.

“Dalton has transferred the things he’s learned as a MMA fighter to the football field,” Hinkle said. “He gets down hill and does an exceptional job exploding to the ball and making tackles.”

Ryan Byron added six solos and two assists. Koepke registered four solos, three assists and recovered a fumble. Jeffrey Hinkle had three solos and three assists. Roberts had three solos. Andrew Cooper and Smith both recovered a fumble.

Festus rushed for 215 yards and threw for 12 yards.

Running back Corey Carr carried the ball 14 times for 192 yards and scored two touchdowns.

“Carr has good speed, good vision and runs the ball well,” Hinkle said. “We didn’t pursue him like we needed to. We made some mistakes and couldn’t get him on the ground.”

Game Summary

Festus took a 7-0 lead with 3:46 left in the first quarter on a 64-yard touchdown run by Carr.

The Tigers increased their lead to 14-0 with 10:21 remaining in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Corey Uding.

Carr struck again with 6:20 left in the third quarter on a 60-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-0.
