Borgia varsity boys volleyball prepares for its first-ever district tournament.

Can the Borgia volleyball Knights make a postseason run?

Borgia (4-16) heads to district tournament play Saturday at Webster Groves.

Borgia is seeded 16th overall in Class 3 of the Missouri Boys High School Volleyball State Championship sponsored by All Volleyball.

The Knights have been assigned to District 1, hosted by the tournament’s top overall seed, Webster Groves.

Also in that district are seventh-seeded Kirkwood, ninth-seeded Ft. Zumwalt North and 17th-seeded University City.

The top two teams from each district advance to the quarterfinals.

The tournament will start at noon with two courts being used, so four of the five teams will be in action at any given time.

Borgia’s matches, in order, will be against Webster Groves, Ft. Zumwalt North, University City and Kirkwood.

“Our kids are still improving with each game we play and our goal this year is to get through our district and move onto the quarterfinals,” Borgia Head Coach John Nieder said.

In District 2, Affton is the top seed with Westminster, Parkway West, Parkway North and Duchesne also in the event. Westminster is the host school.

The Webster Groves district will face teams from the Westminster district in the first round of the state tournament.

District 3 is headed by Vianney with Parkway Central, Ft. Zumwalt East, Chaminade and Bayless also there. Ft. Zumwalt East is the host.

District 4 is being hosted by its top seed, Ft. Zumwalt South. DuBourg, St. Mary’s, Rockwood Summit and North Tech are the other schools in that district.

There also are 19 schools in Class 4. DeSmet is the overall top seed followed by Lafayette, SLUH and Marquette.
