How eager were the Borgia basketball Lady Knights to finally play at home again?
Eager enough to pulverize Kennedy Thursday night, 64-33.
“It was the first time we got to play at home in 2013, and we had a good shooting night here in the Borgia gym,” said Borgia Head Coach Stacia Parsell.
Thursday’s game was the first home contest since Borgia (10-4) hosted Duchesne Dec. 13. Since that point, the Lady Knights have played eight consecutive games on the road.
Borgia opened the game with a 25-8 first quarter against Kennedy (5-11) and continued from there.
At the half, Borgia was up 45-14. Borgia led 58-26 after three quarters.
The good news for Parsell was that she was able to give everyone in uniform plenty of playing time. Nine of the 10 players scored in the contest.
“We went through the tough Union Tournament last week, so we were able to get a lot of people into the game tonight,” Parsell said. “We worked on some things.”
Junior Janie Arand led the way with 15 points while going 7-9 from the field. She added six assists, five rebound and two steals.
Senior Katie Lindemann contributed 12 points with six rebounds and an assist.
“Katie was able to find her shot early in the game,” said Parsell. “That’s who our go-to person is in a game like this. Being able to put some pressure on and dictate the tempo early helped.”
Junior Emily Grahl checked in with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Sophomore Molly Arand scored nine points with four assists and three steals.
“Molly stepped up and shot well,” Parsell said.
Senior Madison Wehking netted six points on a pair of three-point baskets. She also had two rebounds.
Sophomore Cassandra Halsted scored four points with eight rebounds and an assist.
Junior Baylee Godat netted three points with three rebounds.
Freshman Megan Jensen got some playing time as well, scoring three points with one rebound.
Senior Morgan Spradling scored two points with two rebounds.
Junior Alexis Sine pulled down one rebound, but was injured at the end of the third quarter.
Senior Maddie Marchetto led Kennedy with 15 points.
Juniors Lexi Donahue and Sam Hepperman scored five points apiece. Senior Kate Antor netted four points and junior Paige Robinson and senior Kayla Swanson scored two points each.
