St. Clair bounced back from a Wednesday loss to Borgia with a girls basketball win in overtime Thursday at Potosi.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-5) won the game, 53-51.
“We came out really strong. Our transition looked good,” said St. Clair Head Coach Jena Carroll. “We pushed the ball well and found Karissa (Hoffman) in the middle, who made some great passes to cutters underneath.”
It was a back-and-forth game for much of the night.
St. Clair led 17-12 after one quarter, but was outscored 17-7 in the second quarter to trail 29-24 at halftime.
“We lost our focus a little in the second quarter and got beat a few trips down the court,” Carroll said. “They did a good job of coming up with rebounds and getting some quick scores.”
The Lady Bulldogs then had a big third quarter, outscoring Potosi 13-6, to grab a 37-33 advantage.
“We made some big defensive adjustments at halftime and held them to four points in the third quarter, giving us a nine-point swing,” Carroll said.
The score was tied 43-43 at the end of regulation.
“We went a little cold during the fourth quarter,” Carroll said. “We missed some shots and made some turnovers to allow a tie.”
St. Clair had a 10-8 advantage in overtime.
Karissa Hoffman led a balanced St. Clair attack with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Allison Hinson finished the game with 11 points.
Anna Reed collected 10 points and five steals.
Sam Deason pitched in with eight points. Kayla Klenke netted six points. Katelyn Guehne scored four points. Hannah Molkenbur had one point.
“Anna Reed had two big steals in overtime that led to scores. Kayla had a nice on-ball steal at half court at the end of overtime,” Carroll said. “I was really happy with how well we adjusted our defense and our vision on the court. Anna had her best game this season. Hinson was is early foul trouble and Anna stepped in. We got some good minutes out of Hannah off of the bench. It was good to see more players scoring again.”
