Tuning up for the Ninth District Freshmen Legion Tournament, Washington Post 218 cruised to wins Friday and Saturday at Ronsick Field.

Post 218 (31-1, 14-0) won Friday over De Soto 11-1 and Saturday over Central, 9-3.

The win over Central clinched the regular season Ninth District title for Post 218.

De Soto

Washington took care of De Soto in five innings, 11-1.

De Soto took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Post 218 countered with two runs in the bottom of the first, six in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Ryan Becszlko pitched all five innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

“Ryan was on the mound for us and did a nice job, going five innings for the win,” said Post 218 Manager Kevin Juergens.

Post 218 collected nine hits in the contest by eight different players.

John Himmelberg finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs.

Micah McNeal added one hit (double) and two RBIs.

Central

Post 218 won Saturday over Central, 9-3.

Spencer Juergens pitched all seven innings for the win, improving his record to 9-0 on the season. He allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

“With the temperature being what it was, over 90 degrees, Spencer did a great job staying focused on what he wanted to do and making pitches when he had to,” Juergens said.

Offensively, Post 218 collected eight hits and drew 10 walks.

Finder led the way with two hits, two RBIs and one run.

Juergens helped himself with two hits, one walk, one RBI and one run.
