Playing at home last weekend, the Pacific Post 320 Freshmen lost Friday to Creve Coeur and split a doubleheader Saturday with De Soto in non-district games.

Pacific (9-9) lost to Creve Coeur 15-1 in five innings and dropped the first game to De Soto, 5-2. Post 320 took the second game of the twin bill, 10-0.

The second contest of the doubleheader was suspended by rain in the bottom of the fourth inning, but was still an official game.

“It was a frustrating game against Creve Coeur. From the very beginning, the boys didn’t have much energy,” said Post 320 Manager Nathan Bruns. “The doubleheader against De Soto was a nice battle between the two teams. Our guys put forth a much better effort in both games.”

The Ninth District Tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 9.

De Soto

Pacific and De Soto split last Saturday’s doubleheader.

In the first game, De Soto collected 16 hits in a 5-2 victory.

Sam Fuchs pitched all seven innings for Pacific. He allowed five runs while walking two, hitting one and striking out four.

“They stranded a lot of base runners,” Bruns said. “Sam was able to pitch out of some jams.”

Tristan Longsdon finished the game with two hits and one RBI for Pacific.

Alex Westermann, Reid Dauster and Tyler Warren each added one hit.

Post 320 bounced back to win the second game, which ended due to rain in the bottom of the fourth inning.

“Sam didn’t throw many pitches in the first game, so he started the second game because we were short on arms,” Bruns said.

Fuchs worked 2.1 innings, allowing no runs or walks while striking out two.

Longsdon pitched the remainder of the game. He allowed no runs or walks while striking out three.

Mike Sinnott paced Post 320 at the plate by going 3-3 with a double and four RBIs.

“Mike had a really nice game at the plate,” Bruns said. “He did a good job hitting the ball to the opposite field, which I loved to see.”

Austin Muich finished the game with a pair of doubles and one RBI.

Kyle Fitzgerald, Dauster, Longsdon and Fuchs each added one hit. Longsdon and Fuchs both had one RBI.

Cody Rettinghaus scored three runs.

“It was nice to get a win. The energy we displayed in the first game carried over into the second game,” Bruns said. “There was a lot of effort in both games. As a coach, you just want to see 100 percent effort, and the guys responded. A few breaks finally started falling our way. We turned a couple of double plays and just broke out of it a little.”

Creve Coeur

Things did not go well for Pacific in Friday’s 15-1 loss to Creve Coeur.

Jacob Michael pitched all five innings for Post 320. He had six walks and four strikeouts.

“Jacob has been excellent out of the bullpen this season. He thrives on pressure situations,” Bruns said. “I wanted to give him a start and he just didn’t seem comfortable.”

Westermann collected two of Pacific’s four hits in the game.

Muich and Rettinghaus both added one hit.
