Three Pacific wrestlers went unbeaten and the Indians finished with a 2-3 dual record Saturday at the Farmington Tournament.

The tournament was set up with everything as duals and the Indians managed two wins on the day:

• Pacific defeated St. Clair, 48-30; and

• Pacific defeated Warrenton, 45-30.

The three losses were:

• Sikeston defeated Pacific, 39-36;

• Mexico defeated Pacific, 45-24; and

• Farmington defeated Pacific, 54-24.

“I’m not unhappy with how we wrestled, but we could’ve done better. It’s tough because we didn’t get much practice time last week and probably won’t get much this week because of the weather,” said Pacific Head Coach Rob Schimsa. “Farmington is solid. They have a lot of good, younger kids coming up. They reload every year. Mexico has some good kids. We probably should’ve beaten Sikeston. That was the one dual I wasn’t happy with.”

Finishing with 5-0 records on the day for Pacific were Josh Franek (120), Dalton Voyles (170) and Austin Repp (182).

Franek likely will move down to 113 pounds later in the month. He improved to 23-3 on the season.

Voyles is on his way down to 160 pounds. He improved to 26-2 on the campaign.

Repp will soon move back down to 170 pounds. He remained unbeaten on the season at 29-0.

“Our three guys who went 5-0 all wrestled very well,” Schimsa said. “Franek pinned a returning state qualifier from Farmington. He tore him up. Voyles wrestled (Dustin) Conner from St. Clair and handled him pretty well (4-1 decision). Repp took on an undefeated kid from Mexico and dominated him, pinning him in the second period.”

Pacific’s Joe Rind posted a 4-1 record at 132 pounds, improving to 24-6 on the season.

“Joe lost to a kid from Mexico, but beat a solid kid from Farmington,” Schimsa said. “He had a good tournament.”

Zain Mathena (126) had a 3-2 record, which included a pin over Sikeston.

Lane Smith (138) finished with a 2-3 record with wins over Warrenton and St. Clair.

Danny Nickelson (145) had a 2-3 record with wins over Sikeston and St. Clair

James Spencer (160) posted a 2-3 record with wins over Warrenton and St. Clair.

Jarrett Harrison (195) had a 2-3 record, which included a win over Farmington.

Jamie Myers (220) registered a 2-3 record, which included a win over St. Clair.

Garett Maurath (152) went 0-5, but lost a 2-1 decision to Sikeston.

Pacific was open at 106, 113 and 285.

Weather permitting, Pacific wrestles Thursday at North County at 6 p.m.

Next week, the Indians compete Monday at Sullivan and Tuesday at home against Lafayette for 6 p.m. starts and host a tri meet Thursday, Jan. 16, against McCluer and Westminster at 5 p.m.

“Everybody we had at Farmington competed well. We still need to get better in some areas,” Schimsa said. “We’re getting to the second half of the season. It’s time to start thinking about districts and state and getting ready for that.”
