Playing three days in a row proved to be too much for the Union soccer Lady ’Cats.

Playing in its home opener, Union fell to the Rolla Lady Bulldogs Friday afternoon at Union Middle School, 1-0.

“We had several good scoring chances throughout the game,” Union Head Coach Matt Fennessey said. “I can think of seven plays that we could of scored on.”

Union ahd one goal called back after a hand ball. Three more shots went off the post or crossbar and twice the ball was cleared off the goal line.

Fennessey said Rolla committed a hand ball violation in the box in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn’t whistled.

Union (6-1) returns to action next Monday with a game against De Soto. The junior varsity game kicks off at 5 p.m.

Union has a home a Four Rivers Conference contest against Sullivan Tuesday. JV action begins at 5 p.m.

The Lady ’Cats were shut out for the first time this season Friday in a 1-0 loss to Rolla (8-1).

The game’s lone goal came in the second half on a shot from about 25 yards out by Caroline Victor.

Katie Hudson recorded the shutout in goal for Rolla.

“You know I think if we could of had a day of practice we would have been able to fix some problems that we had been having,” Fennessey said. “I’m bot going to making excuses for losing to a good Rolla team. They had an effective game plan and stayed with it. If we want to win games against good teams we’re going to have to play more disciplined soccer. All in all, the girls played very hard just not as smart as we could have. This is a great learning experience for the girls.”
