Two local youth golfers fared well at the Gateway PGA Junior Golf Tournament on Thursday at Wolf Hollow Golf Club.

The 18-hole event featured boys and girls from ages 12-19.

Cameron VanLeer and Steven Wendling tied for medalist honors in the boys 14-15 age division. Both finished with identical scores of 76 (five over par). VanLeer will be a freshman at Pacific High School in the fall.

Aaron Spiegel and Nick Messinger tied for third place (79) and Austin Hoerstkamp finished fifth with an 80. Hoerstkamp was a sectional qualifier for Borgia this spring.

There were 16 golfers in the boys 14-15 division.

Other winners were:

• Zach Shirley was the champ in the boys 12-13 division with an 83 and Jacob Chapman finished second.

• Thomas Buffington won the boys 16-19 division by finishing with a 73 and Kaleb Counts was the runner-up (78).

• Madison DeRousse won the girls 15-19 division with an 81 (10 over) and Abigail Beckerdite was the runner-up (85).

• Katie LaKamp won the girls 12-14 division with a 107 and Emma Wolf was second (111).

Tour Tune-Up

There was also a Tour Tune-Up event at Wolf Hollow on Thursday.

In the girls event, Alexa Shelton (90) was the winner and Colleen Donegan (100) finished second.

Tyler Fieser won the boys event with a 72 (one over par) and Matt Hatley was second (81). Jake Williams and Brandon Riggles were third and fourth.
