Bulldogs Register 2-1 Dual Record at Whitfield Meet

St. Clair won two of three dual meets in wrestling competition Wednesday at Whitfield High School.

The Bulldogs registered victories over Principia 44-25 and John Burroughs 36-30 and lost to defending Class 1 state champion Whitfield, 51-18.

“We wrestled well. I am seeing gradual improvement from some of our young kids,” said St. Clair Head Coach Brent Yule. “I was happy with how we competed. We wrestled a little sloppy, but we didn’t quit and wrestled hard all night.”

Principia

St. Clair won five of the nine contested matches in the win over Principia.

Winning contested matches for the Bulldogs were:

• Kris Heembrock (106) pinned Gavin Frager in 30 seconds;

• Austin Koenig (132) won by major decision over Zeya Kyaw, 12-2;

• Hayden Norton (152) pinned Bucky Brewer in 1:07;

• Dustin Conner (170) won by major decision over Robby Butler, 11-2; and

• Tyler Fisher (285) pinned Ryan Eisenauer in 3:03.

Thomas Maple (113), Skyler Hutchison (182) and Matt Gordon (195) won by forfeit.

Chris Algiere (120) lost by an 8-3 decision. Cody Bredall (126) lost by a 17-7 major decision. Jarad Algiere (138) and Dylan Nappier (160) both were pinned.

St. Clair was open at 220. Both teams were open at 145.

John Burroughs

St. Clair won six of the 11 matches in the win over John Burroughs.

Winning contested matches for the Bulldogs were:

• Chris Algiere (120) won by decision over Percy Vanacht, 9-2;

• Chase Cohen (126) pinned Jay Borgwardt in 2:44;

• Austin Koenig (132) pinned Zac Norton in 3:21;

• Norton (152) pinned Mark Rodgers in 49 seconds;

• Conner (170) won by decision over Nathan Dee, 7-2; and

• Gordon (195) pinned Michael Strawbridge in 37 seconds.

Heembrock (106) won by forfeit.

Ethan Koenig (113) lost a 10-4 decision. Hutchison (182) lost an 8-7 decision. Jarad Algiere (138), Nappier (160) and Colton Huddleston (285) each were pinned.

St. Clair was open at 145. Both teams were open at 220.

Whitfield

St. Clair’s lone contested win against Whitfield was by Gordon, who pinned Max Walters in 1:09 at 195 pounds.

Maple (120) and Chris Algiere (126) both won by forfeit.

Hutchison (182) lost a 6-4 decision.

Heembrock (106), Ethan Koenig (113), Austin Koenig (132), Norton (152), Nappier (160), Conner (170) and Huddleston (285) each were pinned.

St. Clair was open at 138. Both teams were open at 145 and 220.
