Pacific made it six victories in a row with a 49-45 girls basketball win Thursday at Cuba High School.
The Lady Indians (9-3) trailed by 10 points at halftime, but took the lead for good with a dominating third quarter.
“We came out flat. We did not come out with a bang,” said Pacific Head Coach Josh Spuhl. “After halftime, the girls really stepped up their game. We had an 18-3 third quarter to take the lead.”
The Lady Indians made their run without a key player. Guard Lizzy Almo did not play in the second half because she was sick.
“The other girls had to step up, and they did,” Spuhl said.
Trailing 29-19 at halftime, Pacific outscored Cuba in the second half, 30-16.
Kya Hill led Pacific in the scoring column with 20 points.
“Kya had a big game for us,” Spuhl said.
Abby Spuhl, Meagan Wakefield and Almo each finished the game with seven points.
Ashley Hill pitched in with five points. Ellen Rogers had three points.
“Cuba didn’t lay down after we took the lead. We didn’t shoot very well from the free-throw line. We were 7-15,” Spuhl said. “Our defense stepped up in the second half. We held them to 16 points. We didn’t play our normal game. We will work hard to prepare for Summit (Tuesday) and Parkway West (Wednesday) next week.”
