Beginning its softball season last Saturday at the Union Tournament, Pacific notched a 1-2 record for a fourth-place finish.

The Lady Indians opened the event with a 10-2 victory over Borgia, lost in the semifinals to Park Hills Central 13-3, and dropped the third-place contest to Warrenton, 14-2.

With the score tied 1-1 against Borgia, the Lady Indians broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to grab a 10-1 advantage.

Pacific went on to win the game, 10-2.

Leading the Lady Indians’ 11-hit attack was Madison LeClaire, who was 2-4 at the plate with a three-run double.

Meagan Wakefield also was 2-3 at the plate.

Emily Copeland and Hunter Kelemen also had two hits.

“Meagan and Madison led our offensive attack,” said Pacific Head Coach Tonya Lewis. “Emily and Hunter also performed well at the plate. Emily also had a solid performance at first base.”

Marissa Tate was the winning pitcher, working all seven innings.

Park Hills Central

Pacific dropped a 13-3 decision to Park Hills Central in the semifinals.

Amber Zurliene was the starting pitcher for the Lady Indians and worked two innings to suffer the loss.

Wakefield pitched the rest of the game, allowing two runs.

“We never really got the bats going in the game against Park Hills Central,” Lewis said. “Holly Huff came off the bench and hit a double. Hunter Kelemen was hit by a pitch. Both runners scored on a double by Alyssa Rowbottom.”

Pacific dropped the third-place game to Warrenton, 14-2.

Tate was the starting pitcher for the Lady Indians and suffered the loss. Wakefield took over and pitched the remainder of the game.

“There were 13 runs scored in the second inning and we did not recover,” Lewis said. “The Warrenton game was the only one where I was disappointed in our play. The girls were tired and hot and it showed. After the rain delay, we could not recover mentally and did not come out ready to play."
