It’s football time again with preseason jamborees scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23.

The jamborees are the only sanctioned preseason events where schools can play other schools prior to the start of the regular season Aug. 30.

The jamborees are organized scrimmages and run under general rules.

In jamborees with four teams, each team plays the other three and has 12 plays on offense and 12 on defense in each scrimmage.

It’s modified for jamborees with only three teams. In those, teams get 18 plays on each side of the ball during their two scrimmages.

Coaches can decide what situations they want to work on during their offensive plays. That could be anything from starting at drive at the 40-yard line to working on goal line situations. In the event of a turnover, a school gets a new drive if it still has plays remaining in its offensive series.

Borgia

Both Washington schools will be at Borgia for their jamboree, which starts at 7 p.m.

Joining Borgia and Washington at the event will be Cardinal Ritter and University City.

Admission for the event is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Action begins with Borgia playing Cardinal Ritter and Washington taking on University City.

In the second round, Borgia will play University City and Washington faces Cardinal Ritter.

The final round will have Borgia playing Washington and University City against Cardinal Ritter.

St. Clair

St. Clair will host Rolla, Poplar Bluff and Helias Catholic for its jamboree starting at 6 p.m.

Admission for the event is $1.

St. Clair and Helias both reached the Class 4 playoffs last season. Rolla was a Class 5 playoff team.

Helias returns a number of starters from last year’s team that lost to Webb City in the Class 4 state championship game.

The jamboree starts with St. Clair against Poplar Bluff and Rolla against Helias.

The second round features St. Clair against Helias and Rolla versus Poplar Bluff.

The event closes with St. Clair against Rolla and Helias against Poplar Bluff.

Sullivan

Sullivan, Pacific and St. James from the Four Rivers Conference will be joined by Salem for the four-team jamboree event at Sullivan High School.

The event starts at 7 p.m. If excessive heat is an issue, the starting time could be pushed back to 7:30 p.m.

Admission for the event is $2 and proceeds will be donated to the Whatever It Takes fund.

All four teams will be in action the entire time.

The event starts with Pacific against St. James and Sullivan taking on Salem. Pacific and Sullivan will have the first offensive series on each side.

The second round will pit Salem against Pacific and St. James against Sullivan. Salem and St. James have opening offensive series in that scrimmage.

The event closes with Pacific against Sullivan and St. James against Salem. Pacific and St. James will open on offense.

The concession stand will be open for the event.

Hillsboro

Union is heading to the Hillsboro event, which currently has two sessions and seven teams.

Union is in the second session along with Farmington, Lift for Life Academy and Sumner. That session will start at 7:30 p.m.

The first session consists of Hillsboro, MICDS, Carnahan and Sikeston.

Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

In Union’s session, it will start against Farmington and Lift for Life will play Sumner.

Union takes on Sumner as Farmington and Lift for Life play in the second scrimmage.

Union then faces Lift for Life to close the event. Farmington will play Sumner on the other side of the field.

The first session starts at 6 p.m. with Hillsboro playing MICDS and Carnahan taking on Sikeston.

In the second scrimmage, Hillsboro pays Carnahan and MICDS plays Sikeston.

In the third scrimmage, Hillsboro meets Sikeston and Carnahan takes on MICDS.

The admission for everyone will be $2.

The event starts with Hermann taking on Wright City on the south end and Montgomery County playing Cuba on the north end.

The second round pits Hermann against Cuba and Montgomery County against Wright City.

The final round has Hermann taking on Montgomery County and Cuba playing Wright City.

Blair Oaks

Owensville will be going to the Blair Oaks Jamboree in Wardsville.

It’s a six-school event with three schools playing on each end of the field.

The Dutchmen will play Moberly at 6 p.m., and California at 6:30 p.m. The event closes with Moberly playing California at 7 p.m.

On the other end of the field, Blair Oaks plays Tipton at 6 p.m. Tipton then meets Centralia at 6:30 p.m. Blair Oaks closes by playing Tipton at 7 p.m.
