It was a happy night for the host school.

Both the Borgia girls and boys basketball teams captured district championships.

The Lady Knights (24-2) opened the evening by beating second-seeded Sullivan (22-5) for the championship, 55-29. Borgia advances to play in the sectional round Wednesday at Missouri S&T in Rolla at 6 p.m. The opponent will be Marshfield (23-5).

In Saturday's district championship game, Borgia jumped out to the early lead and was up 12-7 through one quarter and 24-15 at the half.

The Lady Knights went on a 12-point run through the late part of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter. It was 32-19 after three quarters and 55-29 at the end.

Senior Janie Arand, who will play at Missouri S&T next season, led Borgia in scoring with 25 points. Sophomore Megan Jensen was next with eight points and senior Emily Grahl added six points.

The boys championship went to overtime, marking the third time this season that Borgia (18-8) and Pacific (21-6) had gone to overtime in three meetings.

Borgia, the second seed, jumped out to an 11-4 lead after one quarter. Pacific got a long three-point shot by Tanner Brown at the horn to give Pacific a 23-19 lead at the half.

After three quarters, Pacific led 42-40 with a Zach Kraus bucket being the difference.

Pacific led down the stretch until Borgia sophomore Walton Eckelkamp hit a long three-point basket while being closely guarded at the final horn. That tied the game at 58-58 and sent it into overtime.

Borgia never trailed in overtime and led by as much as five points before Pacific made the crowd sweat it out through the final moments.

Pacific junior Cullen VanLeer hit a three-point shot for his game-leading 26th point with 3.7 seconds left to cut Borgia's lead to one point, 67-66.

The Indians quickly fouled, but senior Joe Helfrich hit both free throws. Pacific's final shot, by Brown, missed and the Knights held on for the victory.

The previous two overtime games between the teams had been split. Borgia won the regular season game at Pacific. The Indians won the Union Tournament championship game.

Borgia will take on Marshfield (15-13) following the girls game at Missouri S&T Wednesday.
