Following a win Wednesday at home over Hillsboro, the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs take some momentum into next week’s district basketball tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-13) won for the second straight time after a five-game losing streak, knocking off the Lady Hawks on senior night, 63-42.

The game originally was scheduled for Thursday, but moved to Wednesday due to the weather forecast.

Seniors honored were Kayla Klenke and Anna Reed.

“It was a good win for us on senior night,” said St. Clair Head Coach Jena Carroll. “All of our thoughts and efforts are now on next week and districts.”

The Lady Bulldogs are seeded sixth for next week’s Class 4 District 9 Tournament at Pacific High School. They open the event against third-seeded Borgia Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

It was a fast start for St. Clair against Hillsboro.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Hawks 21-11 in the first quarter and 11-2 in the second quarter for a 32-13 halftime advantage.

St. Clair put the game away with an 18-11 third quarter run, increasing their lead to 50-24.

“We came out really strong,” Carroll said. “Our transition offense looked really good at times. We did a nice job moving the ball around.”

Karissa Hoffman led three Lady Bulldogs in double figures with 14 points.

Allison Hinson added 13 points. Alicia York scored 10 points.

Sam Deason finished the game with eight points. Katelyn Guehne netted seven points.

Klenke pitched in with four points. Miranda Murphy scored three points.

Hannah Molkenbur and Reed both had two points.

Amber Peterson led Hillsboro (6-18) with 13 points. Christen Hopfer, Bethany Jansen and Victoria Price each added seven points.

St. Clair’s junior varsity team ended its season with a win over Hillsboro.
