Owensville started fast and never looked back in a win over St. Clair Monday in the opening round of the Hermann Girls Basketball Tournament.

The fifth-seeded Dutchgirls (9-7) avenged a Four Rivers Conference loss earlier in the season to St. Clair with a 52-36 victory at Hermann.

Fourth-seeded St. Clair (7-8) played without its leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Karissa Hoffman, who was sick.

“It was a rough night. We struggled in the first half trying to adapt to not having Karissa’s strong presence inside,” said St. Clair Head Coach Jena Carroll. “They beat us on the boards bad and had a lot of second opportunities. We missed her scoring as well.”

Owensville advances to the championship semifinals against top-seeded Hermann (15-2) Wednesday at Hermann High School at 6 p.m.

St. Clair meets eighth-seeded Montgomery County (1-13) in the consolation semifinals Wednesday at Hermann Middle School at 6 p.m.

Only three Lady Bulldogs scored against Owensville.

Allison Hinson led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Sam Deason finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Klenke had four points.

Katelyn Guehne, Anna Reed and Halley Cokley also played.

“Allison played really well. She was confident on the drive, perfect from the line and knocked down a couple of threes,” Carroll said. “Sam came alive in the second half and started looking for her shot more. She’s a great outside shooter when she gets in a rhythm.”

Hailey Diestelkamp paced the Dutchgirls with 14 points. Jaelyn Gauer added nine points. Emily Ellis scored seven points.

Owensville held leads of 12-6 after one quarter, 29-11 at halftime and 43-24 after three quarters.

St. Clair outscored Owensville in the second half, 25-23.

“The second half went better,” Carroll said. “We made some defensive adjustments and started looking for our shots a little more.”

Tournament Results

Hermann cruised past Montgomery County Monday night, 70-13.

Jamie Gleeson finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Karinne Lane added 16 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

Kali Stiers netted 10 points. Tesla Ruediger scored seven points. Hayley Stiers had six points and eight rebounds.

Second-seeded New Haven (11-6) crushed seventh-seeded Wright City, 54-11.

Rachel Steinhoff scored 12 points for the Lady Shamrocks.

Kayla Meyer added 10 points. Emily Kallmeyer scored eight points. Stephanie Gerling and Stephanie Scheer both had six points.

Third-seeded Chamois topped sixth-seeded Warrenton, 55-38.

New Haven meets Chamois in the championship semifinals Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
