Post 218 Juniors Open State With 1-1 Record

JOPLIN - It was one up and one down for the Washington Post 218 Juniors on the opening day of the Junior Legion State Tournament Thursday at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin. 

Post 218 (30-3) opened with an 11-7 loss to Glendale, but rebounded to crush Joplin in five innings, 21-0.

Washington plays Fike Post 499 (30-17) in a losers' bracket contest Friday at 3:30 p.m. 

Fike, the defending Junior Legion state champions, also went 1-1 on Thursday, defeating Joplin 7-1 and losing to Ste. Genevieve, 5-2.

Ste. Genevieve meets Glendale in the winners' bracket final Friday at 1 p.m.

Aaron Meyer and Evan Ayers were Washington's starting pitchers on Thursday. Spencer Juergens gets the start against Fike.

The Post 218 Seniors opened the Zone 1 Tournament in Moberly Thursday with a 9-6 win over West. Post 218 returns to action Saturday in the winners' bracket final against Friday's winner between Hannibal and Jefferson City.
