Tackling a Panther

Washington didn’t have many answers for Ft. Zumwalt North in its final home football game of the regular season.

The Panthers (6-1, 3-1) cruised to a 49-9 victory Friday at Scanlan Stadium.

All of the scoring took place in the first half.

The Blue Jays (2-5, 0-3) were outscored 35-6 in the second quarter and trailed 49-9 at halftime.

The Panthers scored touchdowns on six of their seven first-half possessions and also had a kickoff return for a score.

Washington didn’t help itself with three turnovers in the second quarter.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Ft. Zumwalt North grabbed a 14-0 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Tre Johnson followed by a 23-yard scoring pass from quarterback Brenden Pierce to Johnson.

Washington got on the scoreboard on a 33-yard field goal by Aaron Meyer.

The Blue Jays trailed 14-3 after one quarter.

The game got away from Washington in the second period.

Zumwalt North sophomore running back Camren Fullerton scored three touchdowns in the second quarter.

Fullerton scored on a 37-yard pass from Pierce, a 33-yard run and a 91-yard kickoff return.

Prior to the kickoff return, Washington scored on a 43-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Isaac Lippert to Seth Bollmann.

Pierce added a pair of touchdowns runs late in the second quarter from nine yards and 37 yards to give the Panthers a 49-9 halftime advantage.

Pierce, a junior, threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in the first half. He did not play in the second half.

Johnson, also a junior, scored two touchdowns in the first half.

Fullerton, a sophomore, had the three touchdowns in the second quarter.

Washington running back Kyle Summers carried the ball 13 times for 63 yards.

The Blue Jays conclude their GAC Central schedule Friday, Oct. 18, at Ft. Zumwalt East.
