A big second quarter made the difference for Clayton in its girls basketball victory over St. Clair Wednesday at the Clayton Round Robin Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-3) suffered a 62-48 setback to Clayton after falling to Principia Monday in the tournament opener.

St. Clair’s tournament game Thursday against Lift for Life was postponed due to the threat of poor weather. A rescheduled date has not been announced.

Alicia York led St. Clair in the scoring column with 10 points.

Katelyn Guehne finished the game with nine points. Karissa Hoffman added eight points.

Allison Hinson chipped in with seven points.  Sam Deason and Miranda Murphy both scored five points. Emily Presley had four points.

Clayton (2-0) was led by Hannah Stipanovich, who scored 23 points.

Ashley Johnson added 14 points. Colleen Ahearn scored 11 points.

Clayton was 14-20 from the free-throw line. St. Clair was 6-10.

“I was really pleased with the fight the girls showed in the second half,” Carroll said. “We picked up the intensity in the second half, but our weak second quarter was too costly.”
