For years, high school football teams have had the benefit of playing preseason scrimmages, generally called jamborees, against other schools.

But starting this year, other sports are getting into the act.

Soccer jamborees take place Thursday, Aug. 22, and Saturday, Aug. 24.

Softball jamborees are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23, and Saturday, Aug. 24. Volleyball teams are slated to go in jamboree action Monday, Aug. 26, and Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Following are jamborees received from area athletic directors and coaches.

Washington will travel to Waynesville for its boys soccer jamboree on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 5 p.m.

Rolla will join the Blue Jays and Waynesville at the jamboree.

Pacific plays its soccer jamboree Saturday, Aug. 24, at DuBourg High School starting at 10:30 a.m.

Joining Pacific and DuBourg at the jamboree will be Affton and Lutheran South.

No other local schools reported having jamboree events.

MSHSAA rules for softball jamborees are a maximum of nine innings for each school in the event. A half-inning will end when three outs or eight runs have been recorded.

Schools also have free substitutions.

Washington will play its jamboree at Rolla High School on Friday, Aug. 23, at 5 p.m.

Waynesville will join the Lady Jays and Rolla.

Union, St. Clair, St. James and Hermann will attend a jamboree at St. James Saturday, Aug. 24.

The event has no admission. There are bleachers, but fans can bring lawn chairs. A concession stand will be available.

Games will start promptly at the conclusion of the previous game with no pregame warmups on the playing field.

The schedule starts with St. James against St. Clair at 11 a.m.

Union plays Hermann at 11:45 a.m.

Hermann will play St. Clair at 12:30 p.m.

St. James plays Union at 1:15 p.m.

St. Clair takes on Union at 2 p.m.

And St. James plays Hermann at 2:45 p.m.

Jamborees in volleyball are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26, and Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Round robin matches are two 19-point sets for three-team jamborees or two 13-point sets in four-team jamborees.

Schools can decide whether to use point caps.

Washington will host its jamboree on Monday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m.

Joining the Lady Jays will be Rolla and Waynesville.

Union will be hosting an eight-team jamboree with two pools on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The first pool consists of St. Joseph Academy, Union, O’Fallon Christian and Francis Howell Central. The second pool consists of St. Clair, Sullivan, Pacific and St. James.

The event starts at 5 p.m. with St. Joseph Academy playing Union on one court and St. Clair taking on Sullivan on the other court.

The final match will be Lafayette against Borgia at around 7:30 p.m.

Games will be played to 19 points with two games in each match.
