One of these days, East Central College softball Head Coach Brad Wallach hopes his team can play a game.

“We’re definitely ready to play but it could be worse,” Wallach said. “We did only get dustings when the last two snow storms stayed northwest of us. Plus, we’ve stayed pretty healthy through all the conditioning and preparation.”

The Falcons have had their first five doubleheaders postponed due to field conditions. And the Falcons lost a tournament from the schedule as well when the Evangel JUCO Jam had to be called off at the beginning of the calendar.

“We can control the frustration level to some degree,” Wallach said. “There’s always going to be the initial disappointment of a cancellation but there’s no reason to carry a ‘woe is me’ attitude. There are a lot worse things going on in the world today.”

The Falcons now are scheduled to start play at home against Jefferson College Thursday at 2 p.m. and then visit Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff Friday at 2 p.m.

Both doubleheaders are Midwest Community College Athletic Conference events.

“We’ll just reschedule as many games as we can and continue to prepare,” Wallach said. “How we react to a little bit of bad weather is a choice and we won’t let it drag us down.”

The school also announced another signing for the 2014 season. Ashley Hill of Centralia has inked with the Falcons with the letter being registered at NJCAA Monday.

Hill had been expected to sign with the rest of the class back in January, but was ill on the team’s signing day.

Hill joins Kaitlin Evans (Washington), Rachel Micke (Washington), Kierstin Monzyk (New Haven), Elaine Schoenberger (Timberland), Kaytlyn Wells (Salem) and Sarah Westhoff (Washington) in the current recruiting class.
