Can Washington Post 218 defend its Blue Springs Wood Bat Tournament title?

That’s something the squad will find out starting Wednesday.

Post 218 defeated West for the championship last season with Brendan Kleekamp earning MVP honors.

While Kleekamp is not playing for Post 218 this season, Washington will be looking for its next Blue Springs hero in this year’s event.

Post 218 has been assigned to Pool D in the tournament along with the Rod’s Sports Athletics, Elsberry Post 226, Lee’s Summit Post 189 Pirates and Omaha Post 1 Vikings.

Washington’s pool games will be:

• Wednesday, July 10, Jim Moran Field (Hidden Valley Complex) versus Rod’s Sports Athletics at 5:30 p.m.;

• Thursday, July 11, Blue Springs South High School versus Omaha Post 1 Vikings at 3 p.m.;

• Friday, July 12, Hidden Valley Field 1 vs. Lee’s Summit Post 189 Pirates at 10 a.m.; and

• Friday, July 12, Jim Moran Field versus Elsberry at 3 p.m.

Pool winners and three wildcards will advance to the quarterfinals while the remaining teams will play one crossover game.

Quarterfinals and crossover games will be played on Saturday, July 13.

Semifinals will be played Sunday, July 14, at 11 a.m., at Hidden Valley Fields No. 1 and 3.

The championship will take place at Jim Moran Field at 2 p.m.
