If you’re just going for the football jamboree Friday night at Borgia, you’re missing most of the action.
The four-team football event is one of a number of events happening at the school.
Footballs starts at 7 p.m. to conclude the evening. Borgia will be joined by Washington, Cardinal Ritter and University City. And the Borgia-Washington scrimmage will finish off that event.
There is a $5 admission for adults and $3 for students for the football event.
There are three other events taking place Friday as well.
Starting at 5 p.m. in the Ray DeGreeff Memorial Gymnasium will be a volleyball scrimmage. The free event will feature all three of Borgia’s volleyball levels in scrimmage action.
The varsity team also heads to Lafayette Tuesday for a jamboree, facing Eureka at 6:30 p.m. and Lafayette at 7:30 p.m.
Borgia’s soccer team will host an intrasqaud scrimmage at the Borgia Soccer Field (the old game field) starting at 6 p.m. The Knights scrimmaged Wednesday and will go again for the benefit of fans.
For anyone looking to spend the entire afternoon on campus, the Borgia freshman class will be hosting a taligate dinner in the cafeteria from 4-7 p.m.
Borgia’s teams are all preparing for their season openers.
The football Knights will open the season on the road at Owensville next week. The Friday game at 7 p.m. will mark the opening of the new Dutchmen Field.
After playing at Union in Week 2 (Sept. 6), the Knights will host Duchesne Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. That will be homecoming and the night the school honors the 20-year anniversary of the school’s only football state championship.
The 1993 Knights won the Class 3A state title by going 14-0. Becky Stieffermann (email@example.com) is organizing that event.
Work has not started yet on placing turf on the infield of the baseball/softball field. The softball team will play home games again at the Knights of Columbus Field until the project concludes.
Borgia will play next Thursday at home against Union (4:30 p.m. start) to open the season.
Borgia’s volleyball Lady Knights start the season at Duchesne in an Archdiocesan Athletic Association Large Division event Sept. 3 at 5 p.m.
Borgia’s soccer Knights open the season Sept. 4 at Union. The games will be played at the high school field with the varsity event starting at 5 p.m.
One half of JV action will follow.
Borgia’s girls golf team will start its season Sept. 3 on the road against St. Dominic. The meet tees off at 3:30 p.m.
And Borgia’s cross country team opens its season in the New Haven Short Course Invitational Sept. 7. That starts at 8:30 a.m.
Mitch Figas returns as Borgia’s cross country head coach this season.
He’s being assisted by David Stores once again.
