St. Clair dominated the middle two quarters and cruised past Montgomery County Wednesday at the Hermann Girls Basketball Tournament.

The fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs went on a 27-6 run in the second and third quarters combined in a 49-24 victory over eighth-seeded Montgomery County in the consolation semifinals.

St. Clair was scheduled to play sixth-seeded Warrenton for the consolation title Friday afternoon.

With the score tied 9-9 after one quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Montgomery County 14-5 in the second quarter and 13-1 in the third quarter.

St. Clair held leads of 23-14 at halftime and 36-15 after three quarters.

“It took us a little time to settle in and adjust to Montgomery County’s style of play. Once we were able to make adjustments, things took off for us,” said St. Clair Head Coach Jena Carroll. “There were a lot of fouls called for both sides, so it was a little difficult to push the tempo of the game.”

Allison Hinson led the Lady Bulldogs in the scoring column with 14 points.

Anna Reed finished the game with eight points. Sam Deason registered seven points.

Katelyn Guehne pitched in with six points. Alicia York and Halley Cokley both scored five points. Kayla Klenke had four points.

St. Clair played its second straight game without its second-leading scorer, Karissa Hoffman, who was sick.

“Guehne worked really hard on the inside to fight for position and did a great job on the boards,” Carroll said. “It was good to get everyone to score and be able to work on some individual things that we have been drilling at practice.”

Carroll was pleased with the team’s effort.

“We held them to one point in the third quarter with good, solid, hustle defense,” Carroll said. “With a short bench, several kids played almost the whole game. I’m proud of their efforts and their hustle.”

Championship Semifinals

Fifth-seeded Owensville pulled off a shocker in the championship semifinals, knocking off top-seeded Hermann Wednesday night, 48-46.

The Dutchgirls (10-7) trailed 29-18 at halftime, but outscored Hermann 30-17 in the second half, including 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

Hermann (15-3) led 42-36 after three quarters, but couldn’t hold on.

Hailey Diestelkamp led Owensville with 16 points. Miranda Robertson added 12 points. Bailey Nelson had 10 points.

Karinne Lane had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for Hermann. Jamie Gleeson also had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Tesla Ruediger and Kirsten Leimkuehler both scored 10 points. Ruediger added 11 steals.

Third-seeded Chamois shut down second-seeded New Haven in the other championship semifinal game, 36-18.

Rachel Steinhoff and Kayla Meyer both scored six points for the Lady Shamrocks. Stephanie Gerling added four points. Emily Kallmeyer had two points.

Morgan Brandt scored 17 points for Chamois.

New Haven trailed (11-7) 11-4 after one quarter, 17-8 at halftime and 30-12 after three quarters.
