St. Clair’s girls finished first and the boys placed second in cross country competition Monday at the Elsberry Invitational.

The top 15 finishers earned medals.

Emily Hardin led the Lady Bulldogs with a third-place finish.

Also running were Megan Creasy (fifth), Nicole Souders (seventh), Brittany Hauther (eighth), Danielle Wagner (12th), Lindsy Barns (17th) and Mary York (22nd).

“Emily had the lead for a while. She ran well. Once she gets some more distance into her training, she’ll be set,” said St. Clair Coach Ben Martin. “Megan fought to be fifth. I’m really happy with our freshmen girls. With Lindsy Barns and Mary York, there were four on the varsity team that ran. We have a bright future ahead of us.”

St. Clair’s Austin Gotway won the boys race.

“Austin went into beast mode and won with his fastest time ever on this course,” Martin said. “How Austin ran was just beautiful to watch. He was in control the whole time. It was an impressive win.”

Also running were Tyler Hinson (fifth), Coty DeClue (12th), Phil Whitaker (19th), Roman Avery (22nd), Josh Bozada (29th) and David Morrison (31st).

“Tyler was sitting around ninth with one mile left. For him to pick off four people on this course was a real testament to how strong of a runner he is becoming,” Martin said. “Coty ran his fastest time here of his high school career.”

St. Clair’s JV medalists were Olesya Stadnichuk (girls winner), Hannah Kierns, Emilee Breidenbach, Hannah Hampton, David Webb, Jacob Dickinson and Bill Guyton.
