Scoring 143 points, the Union Lady ’Cats captured the Four Rivers Conference track title Monday in Owensville.

“We are very surprised in the point differential between first and second this year,” Union Head Coach Chris Kelley said. “We thought it was going to be much tighter. The other teams had solid performances, but our girls scored well in most of the events. We figured coming in to this meet we were sitting second or maybe even third. We talked about defending the title and if someone else wanted it they needed to take it from us. We would not give it away. The team really responded and they were on a mission. Everyone did their part and helped contribute.”

The Lady ’Cats were led by FRC track athlete of the year Anna Houston and beat the host team for the title.

“Anna Houston had a big day scoring 38 out of a possible 40 team points,” Kelley said. “She sets the tone for the team and the rest follow. She’s doing awesome in triple jump and her marks are getting better each meet.”

Owensville scored 126 points to place second in front of St. Clair (117), Sullivan (113), St. James (74), Pacific (70) and New Haven (48).

Kelley was named the FRC girls coach of the year.
