Union Wins Girls Title at Four Rivers Conference Track Meet

Scoring 143 points, the Union Lady ’Cats captured the Four Rivers Conference track title Monday in Owensville.

“We are very surprised in the point differential between first and second this year,” Union Head Coach Chris Kelley said. “We thought it was going to be much tighter. The other teams had solid performances, but our girls scored well in most of the events. We figured coming in to this meet we were sitting second or maybe even third. We talked about defending the title and if someone else wanted it they needed to take it from us. We would not give it away. The team really responded and they were on a mission. Everyone did their part and helped contribute.”

The Lady ’Cats were led by FRC track athlete of the year Anna Houston and beat the host team for the title.

“Anna Houston had a big day scoring 38 out of a possible 40 team points,” Kelley said. “She sets the tone for the team and the rest follow. She’s doing awesome in triple jump and her marks are getting better each meet.”

Owensville scored 126 points to place second in front of St. Clair (117), Sullivan (113), St. James (74), Pacific (70) and New Haven (48).

Kelley was named the FRC girls coach of the year.

Girls

• 100-meter dash — Devin Fuhring of St. James won in 12.89 with St. Clair’s Emily Presley second and Union’s Karlie Peth taking third.

• 200-meter dash — Fuhring won in 26.15. Presley and Union’s Amber Tharp followed.

• 400-meter dash — St. Clair’s Lyndsay Hardin won in 1:00.97. Sullivan’s Dana Schatz was second and Owensville’s Emily Ellis placed third.

• 800-meter run — Parker Fane of St. James won in 2:27.9. Ellis was second and New Haven’s Taylor Covington ended third.

• 1,600-meter run — Fane won in 5:39.37. St. James had the runner-up in Leslie Perona while Pacific’s Hannah Graf was third.

• 3,200-meter run — Owensville’s Hannah Baehr won in 13:19.49. Graf was second and Perona took third.

• 100-meter high hurdles — Houston was the winner in 16.24. Sullivan’s Natalie Schriever and Ellis followed.

• 300-meter low hurdles — Houston won in 46.92. Schriever was second and Pacific’s Ashley Brinker took third.

• 400-meter relay — Union’s team of Keighlee Grable, Taylor LaValle, Alyssa Pate and Jessica Desnoyer won in 51.50. Sullivan was second and St. James took third.

• 800-meter relay — Sullivan’s team of LeighAnn Allen, Jenna Lochner, Emma Randolph and Natalie Schriever won in 1:44.78. St. Clair was second and Union took third.

• 1,600-meter relay — The St. James team of Sarah Wells, Fuhring, Hannah Perona and Fane won in 4:12.94. New Haven was second and Union took third.

• 3,200-meter relay — Union’s team of LaValle, Lydia Klenke, Mikayla Sieve and Erin Parker won in 10:20.45. New Haven was second and Pacific took third.

• Shot put — Union’s Hannah Mayfield won the title at 42-10 with Owensville’s Katie Gregor taking second and St. Clair’s Allison Hinson placing third. St. Clair’s Alicia York also surpassed 40 feet.

“Hannah Mayfield broke the school and conference record in shot put,” Kelley said. “She had a huge throw.”

• Discus — St. Clair’s Alicia York won at 127-1. Owensville’s Haley Record and Mayfield also surpassed 100 feet.

• High jump — Owensville’s Haley Diestelkamp edged out St. Clair’s Alex Lashley as both cleared 4-10. Victoria Dace of Sullivan was third.

• Long jump — Houston won at 16-3.5 Lochner was second and Schatz took third.

• Triple jump — Lashley won the event at 35-9.5 with Houston second and Diestelkamp taking third.

• Pole vault — Presley won by clearing 11-6, three feet higher than second place. Tommi Mangnall of Pacific was second and St. Clair’s Kelsey Wachter took third.
