Pacific tuned up for this weekend’s Class 3 District 1 Wrestling Tournament by winning a dual meet Tuesday at Parkway West, 74-0.

The Indians won all six contested matches.

Pacific, the Four Rivers Conference champions, ended the season with a 10-1 dual record in regular season meets and a 17-7 record in combined dual and tournament meets.

“It’s been a good season. We’ve won some duals I wasn’t sure we’d win,” said Pacific Head Coach Rob Schimsa. “A lot of our kids have had solid years.”

Winning contested matches for Pacific were:

• Preston Parks (113) pinned Abreanna Wesley in 1:54;

• Matthew Schimsa (126) pinned David Casanova in 5:52;

• Devin Somers (138) won in overtime over Kyle Campbell;

“Somers won in overtime against a kid who pinned him earlier in the year,” Schimsa said.

• Dalton Voyles (152) won by technical fall over Thomas Skelly, 23-8;

• Andrew Cooper (182) pinned Sean Carey in 59 seconds; and

• Jarrett Harrison (195) pinned Jacob Goldblum in 1:15;

“Harrison is turning it on as of late.”

 Winning by forfeit for the Indians were Josh Franek (106), Joe Rind (120), Jeff  Miller (132), Joon Miller (145), Curtis Paglusch (160), Austin Repp (170) and Tim Toney (285).

Both teams were open at 220.

“Voyles was our only top-tiered wrestler who competed,” Schimsa said. “We got some of our other kids on the mat, which was good.”

Class 3 District 1

It’s back to the Farmington Civic Center for Pacific, Washington and Union this season.

Those three schools are part of Class 3 District 1, which again is being hosted by Farmington High School Friday and Saturday.

“Hopefully we’ll get five to seven kids through to state,” Schimsa said. “I think we’ll be in the running for third place behind Washington and Farmington. Washington probably is the team to beat.”

Three rounds are scheduled for Friday with the first round taking place at 6 p.m.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with the second round of wrestlebacks.

The championship and third-place matches are scheduled to take place somewhere around 5 p.m., but could vary based upon how fast the other rounds are concluded.

The top four wrestlers from each weight class advance to the MSHSAA wrestling champions Feb. 14-16 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
