Washington 25, Timberland 7
Playing on wet and sloppy field conditions, Washington made a big second quarter hold up in a 25-7 football victory Saturday at Timberland High School.
The Blue Jays and the Wolves played on Timberland’s grass field, which became more and more muddy as the game progressed.
Washington (1-1) was able to limit Timberland’s ground attack while executing on the offensive side of the ball.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Blue Jays outscored Timberland 18-0 in the second quarter.
The defense got Washington on the scoreboard when Dilan Bollmann intercepted a pass and ran 30 yards for a touchdown.
Luke Hasenjaeger scored on the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0 with 5:32 left in the second quarter.
Washington quickly got the ball back and struck again when Randall Flotte ran 44 yards for a touchdown to increase the lead to 15-0 with 2:39 left in the second quarter.
The Blue Jays scored again right before halftime when Luke Hoemann booted a 45-yard field goal in less than perfect field conditions with seven seconds left on the clock.
Washington led 18-0 at halftime.
Timberland (1-1) scored its lone touchdown of the game with 8:17 remaining in the third quarter on a one-yard run by Lucas Jordan.
Washington finished the scoring with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Kyle Summers.
The Blue Jays return to action Friday with a week three home contest against Warrenton (0-2).
