The Eighth Annual East Central Football Camp is taking place at four venues and will run through Saturday.

A total of 40 schools are playing scrimmage events at Borgia, Hermann, Parkway West and Ft. Zumwalt East Friday and Saturday.

The camp is run by Borgia Head Coach Dale Gildehaus and Parkway West Head Coach Jeff Duncan.

“It’s a great camp. We charge $30 per student, which is the cheapest around,” said Gildehaus. “Jeff and I take great pride that we’ve never raised the price. We’re not doing this to make money. Our area teams have a chance to stay close to home and the parents don’t have to travel far to watch.”

Most of the larger schools will play at Parkway West and Ft. Zumwalt East.

Most of the smaller schools will play at Borgia and Hermann.

Area varsity teams scheduled to participate are Borgia, Washington, Union, Pacific, Sullivan, Hermann, Owensville, St. James and Wright City.

Each team will play three games on both days. Friday’s games will be a situational type scrimmage. Saturday’s games will be the normal jamboree-style scrimmage. Unlike the jamborees, there will not be a play limit for scrimmages. Instead, teams will have two running clock halves.

Each game will feature an entire crew of MSHSAA officials, who use the camp as training for the upcoming fall football season.

“We’ll have game officials for each game at every site, which teams really like,” Gildehaus said.

There is no admission price, but donations to help fund the camp are welcomed. Concession stands will be available.

For many area fans, the matchup to watch will be one between Borgia and Washington. It’s set for Saturday at 7:10 p.m.
