St. Clair won a pair of home girls soccer games in different ways.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-6-1, 2-2) cruised to a 9-0 victory Tuesday over Belle and claimed a 1-0 overtime victory Thursday over St. James.
Sam Deason registered both shutouts in goal for St. Clair.
“It’s good to get two wins. It’s a confidence-booster for us,” said St. Clair Head Coach Ted Koenigsfeld. “We had a lot of scoring chances and controlled most of the play in both games. We gave up very few scoring opportunities.”
St. Clair broke a scoreless tie in the fourth minute of overtime on a goal by Ally Smiley, assisted by Kylie Schroeder.
“The girls were excited about the win. It was nice to win another conference game,” Koenigsfeld said. “We played well. We had a lot of scoring opportunities and finally finished one of them in overtime. Their goalie had a good game and there were times where we missed some shots.”
Koenigsfeld was pleased with St. Clair’s defensive effort.
“Veronica Guerra had a very good game at sweeper,” Koenigsfeld said.
Nicole Nardi and Tori Martin both scored three goals to lead St. Clair to the victory over Belle. Martin also had one assist.
“Nicole and Tori both had great games,” Koenigsfeld said. “Nicole has been strong in every game. She plays very hard and has been a consistent player.”
Heather Pendegraft finished the game with two goals and three assists.
Ivy Jones netted one goal.
Lindsy Barns and Smiley both added one assist.
“We did a good job moving the ball and passing it to open players,” Koenigsfeld said. “We created a lot of opportunities. That’s what we’ve been working on in practice.”
