Offering six teams this fall, Borgia will start fall sports practices Monday, Aug. 6.

Prospective athletes are reminded that they must have a completed physical form on file and proof of insurance before they are allowed to compete.

Borgia’s football team, which made the Class 4 quarterfinals last fall, will hold practice for all prospective players from 3:15-5:15 p.m.

Junior varsity and varsity players will return for a second session from 6-8 p.m.

Hall of Famer Dale Gildehaus leads the football program. Gildehaus has been the head coach since 1987.

Borgia has at least one new head coach this year, Brad Bruns with the volleyball team. Bruns was the head coach at East Central College from 2007-10, leading the Falcons to three national tournaments.

Being assisted by Martina Roth and Kayla Kimminau, Bruns will hold two-a-days for the varsity team and daily practices for the rest during the first week of practices.

Prior to the start of school the varsity and junior varsity teams will practice from 7-9:30 a.m. and again from 2:30-5 p.m. The freshman team will go from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Rosters will be posted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, for this year’s squads.

On Friday, Aug. 10, there will be a varsity-only practice from 6:30-8:30 a.m.

Once school starts, the varsity team will practice from 3-5:30 p.m., the JV team will go from 3:15-5:15 p.m., and the freshman squad will practice from 4-6 p.m.

Stan Westhoff returns to head the Borgia softball team. All prospective players will practice from 9-11 a.m. at the Borgia baseball field.

Grant Kang is the head coach for the boys soccer team and his squads will practice on the first day from 5-7 p.m. on the Borgia soccer practice field.

Chip Thompson’s girls golf team will meet at Franklin County Country Club Monday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m. Further practice times will be discussed at that time.

Another team which will make plans at its first meeting is the cross country program. Kurt Russell has been the head coach, but recently took a job at Visitation Academy. School officials are trying to resolve the coaching situation before practice begins. Runners are asked to meet in the Borgia cafeteria at 7 a.m. Aug. 6. The team will release its practice plans at that time. Cross country is open for boys and girls.
