The Seventh Annual East Central Football Camp takes place in the area Friday-Saturday, June 15-16.
High school football teams from throughout the St. Louis area and beyond will take part in the camp, which was started and continues to be run by Borgia Head Coach Dale Gildehaus and Parkway West Head Coach Jeff Duncan.
A total of 32 teams will participate in the camp.
“It continues to be a very successful camp. We’re down from 40 schools last year to 32 this year, but we expect some of the schools we lost to come back next year. We haven’t raised the price of the camp. It’s been $30 for all seven years,” said Gildehaus. “This marks the unofficial start to the football season. It’s an exciting time for the kids. Parents of our area teams don’t have to travel to watch.”
The event will take place at five different venues; Borgia High School, St. Clair High School, Parkway West High School, Ft. Zumwalt East High School and Ft. Zumwalt West High School.
Times of the camp will be from 3-8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
Most of the larger schools will play at Parkway West, Ft. Zumwalt East and Ft. Zumwalt West.
Most of the smaller schools will play at Borgia and St. Clair.
Area varsity teams scheduled to participate are Borgia, Washington, Union, St. Clair, Pacific, Owensville and St. James.
Each team will play three games on both days. Friday’s games will be a situational type scrimmage. Saturday’s games will be the normal jamboree-style scrimmage with two running clock halves.
Borgia takes on Washington Saturday, June 16, at 7:10 p.m. at Borgia.
Each game will feature an entire crew of MSHSAA officials, who use the camp as training for the upcoming fall football season.
“We have five officials for each game, which teams really like,” Gildehaus said. “It’s very controlled. Friday is a situational scrimmage and Saturday is what we call ‘Saturday Night Live.’ ”
Admission to the event is a $1 donation to help pay for the expenses of the camp. Concession stands will be available.
