Washington and Hermann needed three games to decide its volleyball contest Monday at Hermann High School.

The Lady Bearcats (19-9-1) emerged with the victory over Washington, 25-15, 25-27, 25-17.

“The girls played as tough as I have seen them play in a long time. I am very proud of their progress. I had some of my players have their best hitting match in a long time,” said Washington Head Coach Kym Blankenship. “Hermann is a very strong team and we were happy to not only take a game from them, but make them fight to beat us in the other two games. If we can start to clean up some of our little mistakes like missed serves and runs on serve receive, we will continue to push against strong teams.”

Washington (12-14-1) was led by Jenna Barnhart, who finished with eight kills. Kara Herron added seven kills and no errors in 13 attempts. She also had three blocks.

Rachel Jackson also had seven kills. Olivia Strode collected six kills and two blocks. Andrea Zoellner added two blocks.

Erica Diener led the defense with 12 digs. Elizabeth Brinkmann had eight digs.

"As always, when we play Washington, there were some long rallies and great defensive play on both sides," said Hermann Head Coach Linda Lampkin. "I thought Washington blocked us very well, and did a good job of passing."

Jamie Gleeson registered 15 kills for Hermann. Emilie Diebal added 11 kills. Abby Witthaus collected 32 assists and three service aces.
