Playing the first of two straight games against Timberland, Washington lost a 6-0 soccer decision Tuesday night.

The Wolves (20-2) led 2-0 at halftime and added four goals in the second half on their home field.

“We played them close in the first half. It was a wet surface. They tackled hard and finished their tackles,” said Washington Head Coach Derek Schriewer. “Things went downhill a little in the beginning of the second half. The last 20 minutes was scoreless soccer.”

Jake Devore, a freshman, was in goal for the Blue Jays.

Washington (3-18-1) lost Monday at St. Charles, 3-0.

Tyler Renaud scored all three goals in the second half for the Pirates (11-10). Bryson Cannon had all three assists.

“He has 28 or 29 goals on the season. He’s the best striker we’ve faced this season,” Schriewer said of Renaud. “It was scoreless at halftime. We had more chances than they did in the first half.”

Fourth-seeded Washington and top-seeded Timberland meet again Monday at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 2 Tournament at Troy High School.

Second-seeded Holt plays third-seeded Troy in the other semifinal game Monday at 6 p.m.

The championship game is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

“We’re going to make it the best game we can against Timberland,” Schriewer said. “We had some chances to score against them. We have to capitalize on our opportunities and put some shots away.”
