Borgia, Sullivan, New Haven Lose Saturday Games

Saturday was a tough day for area high school basketball teams.

Borgia’s boys and Sullivan’s girls both lost in the Class 4 quarterfinals at Drury University in Springfield while New Haven’s girls fell short in the Class 2 state championship game at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Borgia (20-9) saw its season come to an end with a 46-33 setback to Republic.

The Knights trailed 29-28 after three quarters and were outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter.

Republic held leads of 13-7 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime.

Borgia got back in the game with a 10-4 third-quarter run.

Sullivan (24-5) lost to Webb City, 55-39.

The Lady Eagles held leads of 14-10 after one quarter and 17-10 early in the second quarter, but Webb City rallied for a 23-19 halftime advantage with a 13-2 run to end the half.

Webb City led 36-29 after three quarters.

New Haven lost the Class 2 girls state championship game for the second straight season.

The Lady Shamrocks (21-11) led 38-37 after three quarters, but Crane controlled the fourth quarter, outscoring New Haven 18-7.

Rachel Steinhoff paced the Lady Shamrocks with 26 points.

St. James (26-5) won the Class 3 girls third-place game Friday over North Tech, 65-44.
