It wasn’t as easy as it seemed, but the Washington Post 218 Senior Legion team continued its domination of Ninth District competition this week.

Washington (19-3, 11-0) rallied to win at Warrenton Tuesday night, 14-4, and rolled past Wentzville at home Wednesday, 23-3.

Post 218 continues league action with three consecutive games.

On Friday, Post 218 hosts St. Peters at 7 p.m.

That will be Kids 12 and Under Night, according to Post 218 Manager Mike Gardner. All kids 12 and under will get a free ice cream and get to run the bases after the game.

On Saturday, Washington visits rival West for an 8 p.m. game.

And, on Sunday, Post 218 visits Elsberry.

“We are well past the halfway point in our district schedule and we need to keep playing at a high level in order to win the district title,” Gardner said.

Warrenton

Post 218 coaches, players and fans were sweating hard Tuesday night at Warrenton.

And it had nothing to do with the weather.

For six innings, Washington was shut out. And after the third inning, Post 218 trailed 4-0 after Warrenton struck first.

But Washington came back in the top of the sixth. Post 218 scored five times in the top of the sixth.

Washington added five runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to end it, 14-4.

“We really did not have the focus you need to play good quality baseball,” Gardner said. “Even when we were scoring runs we were making some bad mental base running mistakes. It was one of those games that even though we won it was not the kind of baseball we want to play.”

Jakob Junker kept Post 218 off the board for over five innings. But Washington finally started to hit the ball in the sixth and took over from there.

Zach Pointer and Luke Hasenjaeger pitched for Post 218.

Pointer went the first four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk. He struck out eight Warrenton batters.

Hasenjaeger was the winning pitcher, going four innings while allowing one hit and one walk. He struck out six.

“On the bright side, Luke Hasenjaeger was really sharp in his four innings of relief,” Gardner said.

Offensively, Grant Eckelkamp, Sam Katzung and Justin Schuler each had two hits in the game.

Eckelkamp scored a run, drove in one, walked, stole two bases and was hit by a pitch.

Katzung scored twice, drove in one, walked and was hit by a pitch.

Schuler doubled, scored three times, drove in two runs and walked.

Noah Borgerding contributed a triple. He scored once, drove in four runs, walked and added a sacrifice fly.

Dilan Bollmann and Trent Leimkuehler doubled.

Bollmann stole two bases, scored twice and drove in two runs. Leimkuehler scored once.

Jack Kopmann, Matt Jones and Ben Huffman singled.

Kopmann scored once and walked.

Jones scored three runs, walked and was hit by a pitch.

Huffman drove in a run and also walked.

Corey Eckenfels led Warrenton with two doubles.

Wentzville

Returning to Rotary Recreational Complex - Ronsick Field Wednesday, the Post 218 Seniors ripped Wentzville in seven innings, 23-3.

“We came out and played really well against Wentzville,” Gardner said. “We were patient at the plate and hit the ball hard several times.”

Washington opened scoring with four runs in the first. Wentzville got one back in the second, but Post 218 added two more runs to the lead.

In the third, Washington scored seven times. Post 218 added three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth inning.

Wentzville scored once in the sixth while Post 218 scored three more times in the bottom of the inning. Wentzville scored one more run in the seventh before the game was called on the mercy rule.

Jared Walde started for Washington and went five innings. He allowed one run on one hit and four walks while striking out three.

“Jared gave us a solid start on the mound even though he had to battle a pretty tight strike zone,” Gardner said.

Andrew Sumner pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk.

Offensively, Leimkuehler paced the team with three hits and needed only a triple for the cycle.

Leimkuehler homered, doubled and singled. He scored four runs and drove in three. He also had one stolen base.

“Noah just missed a home run to dead center and Trent hit a no-doubter to left,” Gardner said.

Eckelkamp, Bollmann, Jones and Borgerding each had two hits.

Eckelkamp scored three runs, drove in one, walked and added a sacrifice fly.

Bollmann scored twice, drove in one, walked twice and had one stolen base.

Jones scored twice, drove in two, walked three times, was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

Borgerding doubled, scored twice, drove in two and was hit by a pitch.

Hasenjaeger had one hit, drove in a run and walked.

Sam Katzung drew two walks and scored twice.

Ben Huffman walked twice, scored three times and stole a base.

Schuler drove in two runs.

Tyler Murray walked and drove in a run.

Brendan Feldmann walked and scored a run.

Alex Graville took the loss for Wentzville. Carson Bush hit a double.
