Farmington Tops Union, 4-3 By Bill Battle, Missourian Sports Editor The Missourian

Union freshman Bethany Coons reached 50 goals for the season Thursday, but the Lady ’Cats lost on the road to Farmington, 4-3.

“Farmington had our number,” Union Head Coach Matt Fennessey said. “They’ll make you pay when you make mistakes.”

The game was the last regular-season contest for Union (19-3) and also served as the championship game of the Pacific Tournament.

The teams were tied at the half, 1-1. Farmington outscored Union in the second half, 3-2.

Union led 2-1 and 3-2 in the second half.

“We had the lead,” Fennessey said. “We needed to play better defensively.”

Coons scored one goal and added one assist to close out the regular season with 50 goals.

Union’s other goals came from Abbie Brack and Bri Clark. Alyssa Coons and Brittany Faber each had one assist.

Briana Lakebrink made 10 saves in goal for Union.

Taylor Sancegraw, the only player in the St. Louis area with more goals than Bethany Coons, scored one goal for Farmington.

“It was our goal not to let her beat us,” Fennessey said. “Last year when we played, she scored all four of their goals.”
