Washington Post 218 claimed the Ninth District regular season title on the Junior Legion level with a pair of victories.

Washington (22-2, 19-1) won Saturday at home over Hannibal 2-0 and Sunday at Elsberry, 5-1.

Pacific (24-3, 18-2) lost Monday to Elsberry 5-4 in nine innings, giving Post 218 the regular season crown.

The Ninth District Tournament is scheduled to begin this weekend. The bracket will be announced late in the week.

“With our regular season over, we will have a few days to relax and make sure everyone is healthy going into the tournament. We should also be able to get in a few practices as well,” said Post 218 Manager Phillip Kleekamp. “There are still a lot of teams that have to get games in before the July 4th deadline, so we will have to wait a few days to see who will be playing once the district tournament starts next week.”

Hannibal

Washington and Hannibal combined for just seven hits in a 2-0 Post 218 victory at Ronsick Field.

Nick Thiel got the start on the mound for Post 218 and earned the win. In five innings, he allowed no runs on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Todd Feldmann tossed two scoreless innings in relief for the save. He struck out one batter, walked one and gave up one hit.

“Both of our pitchers did a great job of throwing strikes and letting our defense work behind them,” Kleekamp said. “We played a great game defensively.”

Post 218 scored single runs in the bottom of the second and fifth innings.

Spencer Juergens collected two of Washington’s four hits. He also scored a run.

Ross Seitter finished with one hit (double) and one run.

Aaron Meyer added one hit (double).

John Himmelberg drew a pair of walks. Max Diener added one walk and one RBI.

Elsberry

Washington received a two-hit pitching performance from Meyer in Sunday’s 5-1 win at Elsberry.

In seven innings of work, Meyer allowed one run on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

“Aaron retired the first 11 batters he faced. He was extremely efficient, only throwing about 65 pitches in the complete game,” Kleekamp said. “Aaron has been one of our top starters all year. He pitched one of his best games of the season. Our defense also deserves a good portion of the credit. They had another great game behind him.”

Washington broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.

“Their pitcher kept us off balance throughout the first three innings, but we were finally able to get to him in the fourth inning,” Kleekamp said. “We utilized a little small ball to get the inning started. Ross Seitter led off with a great bunt single. We took advantage of a few mental mistakes as well as putting a few hits together to score four in the inning. We probably should have picked up a few more runs in the inning, but we had a mental breakdown or two. The way Aaron was pitching, four was more than enough.” Both teams scored single runs in the sixth inning. Post 218 scored on a home run by Nate Hillermann.

“Nate has been taking a lot more consistent at bats over the last few games, and it was great to see him put a good swing on his home run,” Kleekamp said. “Hopefully he can continue to stay hot into the district tournament.”

Hillermann and Feldmann both had two hits for Post 218. Hillermann added two runs and one RBI. Feldmann also had a walk and one RBI.

Justin Baylard finished with one hit (double), two RBIs and one run.

Seitter collected one hit and one run. Kyle Summers had one hit.

Ryan Becszlko added one walk and one RBI. Juergens scored a run.
