Pacific Post 320 split a home Freshmen Legion doubleheader Tuesday with St. Peters.

Post 320 (8-7, 4-4) won the first game, 4-2. St. Peters took the second game in five innings, 12-2.

“It was nice to get out of our slump a little by winning the first game,” said Post 320 Manager Nathan Bruns. “We needed both games, but we’ll take the one win and go from there.”

After playing Friday against Creve Coeur, Post 320 is scheduled to host a doubleheader Saturday against De Soto at noon and visit De Soto for another doubleheader Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pacific will host Washington Wednesday, July 3, at 6 p.m.

First Game

Austin Muich was the winning pitcher for Pacific in the first game of the doubleheader against St. Peters.

Muich worked all seven innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

“For Austin, it’s usually just a matter of getting through the first inning. Once he does that, he usually finds the zone and gets settled in,” Bruns said. “He allowed one run in the first inning against St. Peters. He didn’t have his best stuff, but that’s still better than most guys. As usual, I was impressed with him on the mound.”

Trailing 1-0, Post 320 scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead for good.

Cody Rettinghaus, Pacific’s leadoff batter, was 3-3 at the plate.

Tristan Longsdon finished the game with two hits.

Alex Westermann and Tanner Wright both had one hit. Westermann added one RBI.

Reid Dauster had one RBI.

Second Game

Pacific gave up 12 walks in the second game, which resulted in a five-inning loss.

Longsdon pitched the first 4.2 innings and suffered the loss. Jacob Michael pitched one-third of an inning.

“Tristan struggled to find the strike zone. One of the nails on his fingers was sliced open, so he was dealing with that,” Bruns said. “We put Jacob in during the fifth inning and he had control problems, too.”

Sam Fuchs, Mike Sinnott, Wright, Rettinghaus, Westermann, Longsdon and Reid each finished the game with one hit. Michael and Sinnott both added one RBI.

“We were flat at the plate. I think some of the guys were tired,” Bruns said. “We didn’t put anything together until the fifth inning, where we scored our two runs. We just never got into a groove in the second game.”
