It’s been a year to remember for the Four Rivers Conference in girls basketball.

The league had four teams win district titles. So far in the postseason, two have reached their respective MSHSAA state tournaments.

New Haven and St. James reached Columbia and are in the middle of the MSHSAA state tournaments in Classes 2 and 3, respectively. New Haven finished second while St. James ended third.

Sullivan reached the Class 4 quarterfinals. Hermann won a Class 3 district title but lost in the sectional round.

Another FRC team, Pacific, finished second in its district while Owensville made the district semifinals. Union and St. Clair reached district quarterfinal games.

During the league season, Hermann and Sullivan tied for the FRC title by winning on the final night over Union and St. James. Had the results gone the other way, four teams could have shared the league title.

Five of the league’s teams, St. James, Sullivan, Hermann, Pacific and New Haven, won 20 games this season. Of the remaining three, Union went 16-9 while Owensville was 13-13 and St. Clair finished at 12-14.

In the league race, Sullivan and Hermann each went 6-1.

Tying for third place were St. James, Pacific and Union at 4-3. New Haven was sixth at 2-5 while Owensville and St. Clair each went 1-6 in league action.

Competition to make the all-conference teams was just as fierce.

Sharing coach of the year honors were Sullivan’s Jason Merkel and Hermann’s Todd Anderson. Each guided their team to share the league title.

The league’s MVP was Hermann junior guard Karinne Lane. Despite being just 5-5, Lane averaged 8.6 rebounds per game to go with her 14.9 points per contest. She always had a knack for getting into the right position to come down with the ball off missed shots.

Lane also averaged 6.4 assists and 5.9 steals per contest as well.

Also making the FRC first team were:

• New Haven junior Rachel Steinhoff;

• Sullivan junior Taylor Lucas;

• Hermann junior Jamie Gleeson;

• St. James senior MJ Buschmann;

• Pacific senior Lizzy Almo;

• Union senior Rachael Bassett; and

• Owensville freshman Hailey Diestelkamp.

Players making the second team were:

• Sullivan junior Sierra Pryor;

• Pacific junior Kya Hill;

• St. James sophomore Ashlee Marlatt;

• St. James sophomore Alexis Uffmann;

• Union sophomore Bethany Coons;

• St. Clair sophomore Allison Hinson; and

• Sullivan junior Aley Lucas.
