St. Clair won two out of three baseball games during the week.

The Bulldogs (6-14) won Monday at Owensville 9-1 and Tuesday over Herculaneum 18-8 and lost Thursday to De Soto, 3-0.

Owensville

The Bulldogs cruised to a victory over the Dutchmen.

“We came out ready to hit and as a team were able to put hits together,” said St. Clair Head Coach Rob Hauck. “We got hits together, which led to putting pressure on them, and eventually to runs.”

Brenden Murphy pitched all seven innings for St. Clair to earn the win. He allowed one run on three hits with two walks, two hit batters and 11 strikeouts.

“Everyone played a part and Murphy helped us out by pitching an excellent game,” Hauck said. “The defense played well behind him. With 11 strikeouts, Murphy was able to give us a lot of momentum for our plate appearances.”

Ben Feddersen paced the Bulldogs at the plate by going 3-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run.

Greg Marler reached base four times with two hits and two walks to go with two RBIs and one run.

Jake Oermann connected for two hits, one double, to go with three RBIs and two runs.

Austin Gotway was on base three times with two hits, one walk, two runs and one RBI.

Murphy helped himself with two hits, one double, one walk and one run.

Anna Reed was 1-1 at the plate with one RBI. It was her first career varsity hit and RBI.

“Offensively, it was a team effort with everyone having a big hit at some point in the game,” Hauck said. “Anna was able to come up in the seventh inning and have her first varsity hit and RBI.”

Herculaneum

St. Clair collected 14 hits in the five-inning victory over Herculaneum.

“We did the little things right and were able to put up a ton of runs,” said St. Clair Head Coach Rob Hauck. “It was a huge team win with everyone contributing something to our offense.”

Leading the way was Marler, who was 3-4 at the plate with a double, four RBIs and three runs.

Reed also had a big day, going 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs.

Oermann reached base three times with two hits and a walk to go with two RBIs.

Murphy finished with two hits (one double), two RBIs and three runs.

Kody Halmich added two hits and two runs.

Feddersen collected one hit (double), two walks, two RBIs and one run.

Gotway was on base four times with one hit and three walks to go with one RBI and three runs.

Ayden Carey added one hit, two walks and one run.

Skyler Hutchison and Adam Hinson both scored a run. Blake Dierking had one RBI.

Oermann pitched all five innings for the win. He allowed eight runs, five earned, on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

“We hit well with two strikes and forced them to make plays,” Hauck said. “We had several people come up with big hits when we had guys in scoring position and two outs.”

De Soto

St. Clair had five hits in the loss to De Soto (14-7).

Halmich pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs and suffered the loss. He allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

“Our pitching and defense were excellent. Halmich threw a great game and we made some huge plays behind him,” Hauck said. “We’ve had a great year with our pitching staff. Everyone has done well when they get the chance to pitch.”

Murphy was 3-3 at the plate for St. Clair. Feddersen added two hits.

Reed and Oermann both drew a walk.
