Hoping his team is hitting its stride heading into the homestretch, Borgia Head Coach Jeff Hill guided his Borgia soccer Lady Knights to wins over Lutheran South Tuesday, 6-0, and Winfield Thursday, 7-0.

Borgia (11-5) hosts Helias Saturday with junior varsity action beginning at 11 a.m. On Monday, the Lady Knights visit Duchesne with the JV game at 5 p.m.

“We played very disciplined defense and held possession throughout the game,” Hill said about the Lutheran South win. “Our younger players, freshmen and sophomores, really stepped up and relieved the seniors and juniors who have had a really heavy workload the last two weeks. We played Incarnate Word Academy, Francis Howell, Hickman and Villa Duchesne, all top 10 teams, this past week.”

Borgia won two of those games, Hickman and Villa Duchesne, to show that it’s going to be tough to beat in the postseason.

Borgia shut out Lutheran South on the road Tuesday, 6-0.

Emily Grahl scored two goals and added an assist.

Jessica Diermann, Maggie Donnelly and Ana Ratcliff each had one goal and one assist.

Jenna Hellebusch scored the game-winning goal.

Mary Catherine Cook added an assist.

Emily Sisco posted one save in goal to earn the shutout.

On Thursday, the team went to Winfield.

“Winfield has what I believe is the best team they’ve ever had,” Hill said. “Their coach is doing a great job developing his players. They played right with us in the first half. Our starters just played really well after the break, and our younger players made another statement by playing well and scoring when they got the openings.”

Borgia led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Diermann.

In the second half, Janie Arand and Maddison Toelke each scored twice while Emily Grahl and Jenna Hellebusch scored one goal apiece.

Arand, Cook, Diermann and Donnelly posted assists in the game. Sisco made five saves in goal for the shutout.
