A first-half goal held up for Washington in a 1-0 soccer victory Monday in Union.

The Blue Jays (5-7-1) got a goal from Landon Jarvis on an assist from Alex Becszlko, which turned out to be the only goal of the contest.

“It was a good game for us,” said Washington Head Coach Ted Brinker. “We had trouble finishing. We missed the goal on some fairly easy opportunities. As expected, Union always comes out strong for this game.”

Union (6-5) could not tie the game after falling behind by a goal.

Matt McKeever played the entire game in goal for Washington to register the shutout.

“Having Matt control the defense is a great tool for us,” Brinker said. “He is becoming a second coach on the field. He played really well and kept the defense organized.”

Brinker was pleased with Washington’s overall performance.

“Both goalies played really well,” Brinker said. “Union’s goalie made some great saves in the second half to keep them in the game.”
