Earning the second seed through pool play, the Hermann Lady Bearcats qualified for the MSHSAA Class 2 state volleyball championship match Friday in Cape Girardeau.
Hermann went 4-2 in pool action to finish second to St. Pius X of Festus.
Hermann Head Coach Linda Lampkin said that despite the losses to St. Pius, the team knew it could compete with the Lady Lancers in the championship match the next day.
“One thing that helped us yesterday was that the scores were close,” Lampkin said Saturday. “If you look at the stats, I think they had two more kills than us and everything else was pretty even. The fact that we were able to hang close with them yesterday gave our kids enough confidence that they could go out and get it done.”
Hermann senior middle hitter Jamie Gleeson said the team knew it was going to play for the championship when it went into the final pool match.
