The accolades keep coming in for the Borgia volleyball Lady Knights.

Borgia received a number of awards, including all three of the major ones, Wednesday during Archdiocesan Athletic Association Large Division voting.

Senior setter Janie Arand was named the division’s player of the year. It’s the second different sport Arand has been honored as the AAA Large Division player of the year. She also won that honor last winter in girls basketball.

Arand ran Borgia’s offense, posting 797 assists, 78 kills (.358 attack percentage), 25 blocks (seven solo, 18 block assists), 234 digs and 29 service aces this season.

A three-sport varsity athlete (girls basketball and soccer), she has committed to play basketball at Missouri S&T.

Freshman outside hitter Audrey Arand was named the league’s newcomer of the year.

Audrey was the team’s leader in kills with 311 while hitting .343. She also had 158 digs, 26 total blocks (14 solo, 12 block assists) and 32 service aces.

Both Janie Arand and Audrey Arand were named to the league’s first team, along with sophomore rightside hitter Emma Kriete. All three received Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association all-state honors earlier this week.

Three Lady Knights were named to the honorable mention list. They were:

• Senior middle hitter Sarah Geatley;

• Junior outside hitter Jordan Kriete; and

• Junior libero Alivia Brinker.

Borgia Head Coach Brad Bruns was named the division’s coach of the year.

Bruns recorded his 200th career victory, which includes stints with Fontbonne University and East Central College, during the Class 3 District 8 Tournament.

Bruns led the Lady Knights to a perfect 8-0 record within the Large Division, sweeping St. Dominic, Duchesne, Bishop DuBourg and Rosati-Kain in league matches.

Just how tough was the AAA Large Division this year? Borgia won the Class 3 state championship, but wasn’t the only strong team in the division.

The AAA Large Division teams recorded four district championships (Borgia, St. Dominic and Duchesne in Class 3 and Rosati-Kain in Class 4).

Besides Borgia, St. Dominic reached the quarterfinals while Duchesne and Rosati-Kain lost in the sectional round.

Bishop DuBourg was the top seed in its district and lost to Windsor in the championship match.
