All volleyball roads led to Dallas last week for the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships.

Teams in the 11-18 age divisions competed in the Open, USA, National, American and Patriot divisions. Below is a listing of known players from this area who participated in the event, which ran June 27 (18s, 13s and 11s) to July 5 (16s) at the Dallas Convention Center.

St. Louis CYC 14 Green tied for third place in the 14 Open Division, losing to Mad Frog 14s N Esper in three games in the semifinals. Union’s Audrey Arand was a key outside hitter for that team. She is enrolled at Borgia this fall and will be a freshman there.

Show Me Volleyball Academy 16 Rox tied for 31st in 16 Open. Allie Marquart (Borgia) was a defensive specialist for the team at the national tournament.

SMVA 16 Rox did not win a match in the top 16s division of the tournament, but did go to three games in four matches. Union High School graduate Shane Allen coached that team.

Rockwood Thunder 15 Mizuno tied for 31st in the 15 Open division. Like SMVA, the team did not win a match. Borgia’s Emma Kriete was a starting rightside hitter for the team coached by former Washington High School Assistant Coach Shane Weber. He currently is the head coach at Villa Duchesne.

Momentum 16 Navy finished 17th in 16 USA. Alivia Brinker (Borgia) was a defensive specialist for that team.

Momentum won the Flight 2 title.

Rockwood Thunder 15 Navy placed 29th in 15 National, winning Flight 3. Local players on that team were Elizabeth Mattli (Borgia) and Amanda Vollmer (Washington).

Rockwood Thunder 18 Navy was 11th in 18 American, losing in the Silver Bracket semifinals. Local players on that team were Borgia graduate Hanna Glastetter and New Haven’s Kelsey Pecaut.

TESL 18 Red won the 18 National Flight 2 title, beating Niagara Frontier 18-1 in the championship match in three games. Two area players, Pacific graduate Kersten McDonough and Borgia’s Sarah Geatley, played on that team. Geatley will be a senior this fall.

A number of others with area ties also played in the event. If you know of a local player who participated in the national tournament and isn’t in this article, please email battleb@emissourian.com or call 636-390-3040 so your player can be added to the master list.
