To get to Columbia, area wrestling schools will have to head south this weekend.

High Schools from this area will be competing at either Farmington (Class 3) or Ste. Genevieve (Class 2) for the right to continue in the postseason.

The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to the MSHSAA Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia Feb. 15-17.

Washington, Pacific and Union will be competing in the Class 3 District 1 event in Farmington while Class 2 District 1 teams wrestling in Ste. Geneveive include St. Clair, Borgia, Sullivan, Owensville and St. James.

Below is information on the two tournaments.


The Class 3 District 1 meet will be held at the Farmington Fieldhouse, the same location as last year.

This is at Farmington High School, across the street from the Farmington Civic Center, where the meet ran for years.

Friday matches will consist of the first round, first- and second-round wrestlebacks and quarterfinals. This is being done due to the possibility of winter weather Saturday afternoon or evening.

Friday’s action will start at 6 p.m. and Saturday’s session will begin at 10 a.m.

Admission is $6 per day.

Schools attending the meet are Cape Girardeau Central, De Soto, Farmington, Festus, Gateway, Hillsboro, North County, Pacific, Rockwood Summit, Sikeston, St. Mary’s, Union, Washington, Webster Groves and Windsor.

Ste. Genevieve

The Class 2 District 1 meet returns to Ste. Genevieve once again this year.

Wrestling begins with first-round matches Friday at 5 p.m. First-round wrestlebacks should start around 6 p.m. with the quarterfinals expected to begin around 7 p.m. Second-round wrestlebacks are expected to begin at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s action starts with the semifinals and third-round wrestlebacks at 9 a.m. The consolation semifinals will follow at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Place matches are expected to start around 1 p.m.

Competing schools are Affton, Bishop DuBourg, Park Hills Central, Dexter, Kennett, Lift for Life, Lutheran South, Cape Notre Dame, Owensville, Potosi, St. Clair, Borgia, St. James, Ste. Genevieve and Sullivan.

Admission is $6 per day.
