Two area boys golfers earned the right to advance beyond the East Missouri District Optimist Junior Golf Tournament Thursday.
Nick Vilela and Garrett Klenke both advanced by finishing in the top two in their age groups at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka.
Klenke took second in the boys 14-15 division by shooting a round of 76, four over par.
Those advancing qualify to compete against 700 other junior golfers in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Boys 10-11, 12-13 and girls 10-12 compete July 17-22.
Boys 14-15 and girls 13-14 compete July 22-27.
The boys 16-18 and girls 15-18 tournament takes place July 27 - Aug. 1.
Carsen Silliman was first in the boys 14-15 division with his round of 71.
Vilela finished second in the boys 10-11 division with his score of 82.
Savyasaachi Kandula won the boys 10-11 division with a 78.
In the boys 12-13 division, Andrew Fallis won with a round of 86. Vinny Boccardi was second at 96 strokes.
Jaden Hightower was the winner of the boys 16-18 division with a round of 69. Alex Heib also advances with his round of 70.
For girls 10-12, Reese Reinhardt won with 92 strokes. Grace Hightower took second at 101.
In the girls 15-18 division, Claire Solovic won with a score of 75. Parker Perry was second at 76.
Three area golfers competed in the boys 16-18 division. Zach Unnerstall tied for 11th with his round of 80. Mark Maguire took 15th with a score of 82 and Brady Linz shot an 86 to take 16th place.
Jordan Aholt finished seventh in the girls 15-18 division with her round of 88.
